Ajo

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about AjoMoney.

About Your Money

Does AjoMoney hold or store my money?

No. AjoMoney does not hold, store, or touch any money at all. We are a contribution tracking platform — not a bank, wallet, or payment processor. Members pay contributions directly to each other or to the group admin through their own bank accounts or mobile money. When a member pays, they upload proof of payment on the platform, and the admin confirms it. AjoMoney simply records and tracks who has paid and who hasn't.

Where is the money stored?

The money never enters AjoMoney. It stays in the members' own bank accounts until physically transferred between members. Think of AjoMoney as a smart digital ledger — the same way a secretary in a traditional Ajo group keeps a notebook of who paid and who collected. The notebook doesn't hold the money. AjoMoney is that notebook, just smarter and online.

What happens to my money if AjoMoney shuts down?

Since AjoMoney holds no funds, there is zero financial risk to your money if the platform ever shuts down. Your money was never on the platform to begin with — it is always in someone's personal or group bank account.

How are payouts handled?

The group admin records the payout on the platform once the recipient has physically received the money. AjoMoney does not initiate or process any bank transfers — the actual movement of money always happens outside the platform between members, the same way a traditional Ajo works.

Using the Platform

Is AjoMoney free to use?

Yes — 100% free. There are no platform charges, subscription fees, or hidden costs. AjoMoney charges zero on your contributions or payouts.

Can I be in multiple groups at the same time?

Yes. You can join and manage as many savings groups as you want from a single account. Each group is tracked independently with its own schedule, members, and ledger.

How many people can be in a group?

You set the maximum number of members when creating the group. There is no fixed limit — small groups of 5, large groups of 50, it all works the same way.

What are the two types of savings groups?

Rotating payout (Esusu-style): Each cycle, one member receives the full pot collected from all contributions. The rotation continues until every member has collected once.

Accumulation: Contributions are pooled together and paid out to all members as a lump sum at the end of the group's schedule. Great for group target savings.

What happens if someone doesn't pay?

AjoMoney sends automatic payment reminders before every due date. If a member still doesn't pay, the admin can mark them as overdue, apply a penalty if the group has a penalty policy, or remove them from the group. The platform gives the admin full visibility and control.

Can I leave a group?

Yes. You can leave a group at any time from your group settings. If it is an active rotating group, the admin will adjust the remaining schedule accordingly. Your contribution history stays on your account.

What if the group admin is unreliable?

AjoMoney gives all members full visibility of every contribution, payout, and transaction — so no single person can hide or misuse funds without everyone seeing it. Only join groups with people you trust. AjoMoney provides the transparency tools; the trust is built within your circle.
