Create or join a group

Once registered, you can either start your own savings group or join one that someone else has created.

Option A

Create a group

You become the group admin. You set the rules and invite members.

  1. 1 Click Browse groups → Create group
  2. 2 Set the group name, contribution amount, frequency, and number of members
  3. 3 Choose group type: Rotating payout or Accumulation
  4. 4 Share your invite link or code with members
  5. 5 Approve all join requests from the Members tab
  6. 6 Go to Settings → Activate group to begin the cycles
⚡

You must activate the group to start

Once all your members have joined and been approved, go to the group's Settings tab and click "Activate group". This generates the full rotation schedule and officially starts the contribution cycles. The group will not begin until you activate it.

Important: After activation, the group type is locked and no new members can be added without affecting the schedule.

Make a contribution

AjoMoney does not process payments — you pay the group admin or recipient directly via your own bank. The platform is for recording and tracking that payment.

⚠️ Important: Always transfer money directly to the group admin's bank account first, then come back to AjoMoney to upload your proof of payment.

1

Pay the admin via bank transfer

Transfer your contribution amount to the group admin's bank account before the due date. Keep your receipt or screenshot.

2

Go to Schedule tab → Upload proof

In your group, click the Schedule tab. Find the active cycle's contribution row with your name and click "Upload proof".

3

Upload your receipt

Upload a photo or PDF of your bank receipt or transfer screenshot. Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, PDF (max 5MB).

4

Admin confirms your payment

The group admin reviews your proof and confirms the payment. Your contribution is then marked as Paid and your balance is updated automatically.

📌 Your position

Your rotation position tells you which cycle you'll receive the payout in. If you're position #3, cycle 3 is your month to collect.

🟢 Active cycle

The currently running cycle is highlighted in green. This is the cycle everyone is paying into right now, and one member will collect from it.

7

Receiving your payout

When it is your cycle, you will receive the payout — the total of all members' contributions for that cycle. Here is what happens:

📧

You get notified

When your cycle starts, AjoMoney sends you an email: "It's your turn!" — with your cycle dates and payout amount to expect.

💳

Members pay into your cycle

During your cycle, every other member makes their contribution. You can track who has paid and who hasn't in real time on the Schedule tab.

🏦

The admin pays you out

The group admin transfers the collected funds to your bank account and records the payout on the platform. You'll receive a confirmation email.

📒

Recorded in your ledger

The payout appears in your Ledger tab as a transaction. You can download your full statement as PDF or CSV at any time.

💡 Remember: AjoMoney does not transfer the money — the admin does. The platform simply records and tracks everything so it is transparent for all members.

Group types explained

When creating a group, you choose one of two types. You cannot change the type once the group is activated, so choose carefully.

🔄

Rotating payout (Esusu-style)

Each cycle, one member receives the full pot. The rotation continues until every member has collected once. This is the traditional Ajo / Esusu / Susu model.

Example — 6 members, ₦10,000/month:

Cycle 1 (January)Amaka collects ₦60,000
Cycle 2 (February)Chidi collects ₦60,000
Cycle 3 (March)Victor collects ₦60,000
… and so on until all 6 have collected

Best for: Groups that want each member to receive a lump sum at their turn.

🏦

Accumulation (lump sum at end)

All contributions are pooled together each cycle. At the end of the group's schedule, every member receives their total contributions back as a lump sum. Great for group target savings.

Example — 6 members, ₦10,000/month, 6 months:

Each member saves₦10,000 × 6 months
Total saved per member₦60,000
At the endEveryone collects ₦60,000

Best for: Groups saving towards a shared target or personal goals.
